Spring Garden
Spring has sprung in New England. Well almost. This is the time to start cool weather plants like beans and lettuce. By starting your garden now you will insure a fall bumper crop.
Start by amending your garden in the last 2 weeks in March and the 1st week of April. By amending I mean adding manure and top soil along with compost. Put down 2 or 3 inch's of each plus some slow release fertilizer and then turn the first a 8 to 10 inch's of your garden. I like to let the new layers break down for 2 weeks. I also cover my garden with black landscape cloth at this point.
After a week or two plant your beans a lettuce. By doing this your plants that prefer cooler weather will be ready to pick in the end of may and the first weeks of June. This will make room for Tomato's, cucumber Etc when it's time to plant them. Once those plants pass in August and September plant more lettuce and beans.
This method will keep you in fresh vegetables for the whole growing season.
